Masterplan for South Parade

PLACED worked with SLH (South Liverpool Homes) to find out what local people think about housing-led regeneration plans for South Parade, Speke.

Once a central shopping area and community hub, the parade is no longer the heart of the community. Buildings have been demolished and shops have closed.

SLH wants to bring South Parade back to life, with a masterplan for new homes, new shops, better public spaces and improved services.

Plans are being shaped by the vision and views of local people.

In 2018, we worked with SLH to:

Engage residents through workshops, meetings, and school activities
Run an online survey and gather feedback from social media
Pop-up with Ed the Campervan at the Grow Speke event, South Parade and SLH office
Produce an exhibition and community day to share findings.

Our approach was hands-on, creative, inclusive and visible. We reached people of all ages, from small children to people in their 90s. Some people made special journeys to our pop-up events to have their say. People showed passion and aspiration for the future of South Parade.

We engaged nearly 300 people – with even more sharing their views online.

Our findings and recommendations are helping SLH to make South Parade a better place.
